Description
These Chocolate Buttermilk Donuts with Vanilla Glaze are baked rather than fried. Their tender, cake-like texture makes for a delicious morning treat or fun dessert. Homemade donuts are simple to make and baking in a donut pan makes clean up easy.

Chocolate Donuts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup high quality unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup plus 1 TBSP granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 TBSP unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
Vanilla Glaze
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 3–4 TBSP milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- pinch of salt
Instructions
For Donuts
- Place rack in upper 1/3 of oven and preheat to 350 degrees
- Spray a donut pan with cooking spray
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, unsweetened cocoa powder and salt
- In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, sugar, egg, butter and vanilla until well combined
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix until just combined
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling 3/4 of the way full
- Bake 8-10 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- Remove from oven and allow to cool 5 minutes in the pan
- Fully cool on a wire rack before frosting
For Frosting
- In a medium bowl mix together powdered sugar, vanilla, salt and milk. If glaze is too thick add more milk one tablespoon at a time until reaching desired consistency
- Dip the tops of each donut into the glaze and return to wire rack to set
- Top with sprinkles if desired
